Cuba Travel: Beaches, Booze and Buffets!

A few observations on my last vacation to Cuba: electrical power outages, low food quality, delays, and general inconveniences are the norm in Cuba. BUT the beaches, weather, booze and people are fantastic.

And for the foodies, I provide a video tour thru the barfy buffet line (video does NOT do it justice: buns are rock hard, flies are all over the food, many items are over cooked or under cooked; food safety is of a lower standard than Canada/USA.

We found this Cuban refugee raft washed up on a Matagorda county beach Sunday 6/28/2015 and the story it tells is compelling. The raft first appeared Thursday 6/25/2015, just 9 days after Tropical storm Bill, which started 6/13/2015 off the coast of Honduras where I used to live, and made landfall in Matagorda County Texas on 6/16/2015. We don’t know who was on the raft, however we surmised that they were Cuban due to a leather glove with CUBA THABA label(a Cuban leather manufacturer) and a dropper bottle of Bactivec labiofam that were both found on board the raft, but their journey must have been incredible!

I am an artist in Houston Texas, and my mixed media art is almost exclusively items found on beaches. I am displaying an art piece made from what I recovered from this raft and it will be exhibited starting July 10, 2015 at Galerie Spectra, Suite 822 at Memorial City Mall Houston TX, near Dillards.
The music is by Deva Premal and Miten “So Much Magnificence”
